10 years MUZE’UM L

A RETROSPECTIVE

22 sept - 15 dec 2024
12 jan - 9 march 2025

a tribute to 50 artists who were guests at MUZE'UM L and to founder Fernand Callebert (⁺2022)

On September 21, 2014, MUZE'UM L officially opened its doors during an opening ceremony
in the full sun (during an otherwise cloudy and rainy week).

10 years later, the more than 50 artists who showed their work in this unique space
are once again put in the spotlight during a retrospective.

Also, the founder and driving force of MUZE'UM L, Fernand Callebert, who entered the eternal light in 2022,
will be remembered in his own muze’um.

Light Needling

From 12 January, Martine Platteau / BE will present her work “Light Needling” at MUZE’UM L.

With a reference to dry needling, where a physiotherapist triggers your muscles with a dry acupuncture needle for long-term relaxation of cramps.

The visitor is invited to bring light into a large heart that has been repaired with golden lines, so that thoughts grow and flourish and the heart lights up in different colours.

It is the restoration of our feelings with some golden thoughts, such as 'Kintsugi', where broken pottery and porcelain are repaired with golden lacquer.

Anniversary celebration

10 years of MUZE’UM L

On Sunday 22/09 we celebrated the anniversary of MUZE’UM L in the presence of many of the 50 artists who were previously guests.

With the magnificent performance of the Greek soprano Mária Devitzaki with in-situ arrangement of Allegri’s Miserere, among others.

At 13:40 it was the real afternoon, on the autumnal equinox (day and night are of equal length).

A beautiful day in the light of founder Fernand.

“Not a day without a line”

ELS VOS / BE

This in-situ installation, featuring exclusive etchings by Els Vos, captures the imaginative journey from the darkness of winter to the vibrant light of spring.

It is inspired by the ever-changing interplay between light and nature, and is beautifully integrated into the modern architecture of Muze’um L, which is constructed along the Lightmeridian.

NATHALIE VANHEULE / BE

Nathalie Vanheule feels connected and inspired by the Muze'um L, a place built and designed around the light and the meridian.

“BLUE LINE”

C.H.R.I.S.T.O. Marichal / Be

The migration route of whales often follows meridian lines across the oceans. The migration route, also called 'Blue corridors', was the source of inspiration for Christo's static, monumental work.
Tranquility is created in a static composition because the components of the composition are in balance.
The dynamics are played by the light.
The contours of the two corridors play with light and shadow in Muze'um L.

“AniLighters”

Marina Jacob / De

From the very beginning the artist has been fascinated by the challenge of bringing together two seemingly unrelated motives: that of the Light central for the MUZE’UM L, and that of the difficult human relationship to other species central for Marina’s artistic practice.

“WAITING FOR: GOLDEN HOUR”

In situ installation by Kaat Van Doren / Be

Waiting for the Golden Hour is a true in-situ installation and a post-romantic experience of the sun. It draws attention to the human connection to natural phenomena and also raises ecological and existential questions.

NIGHT & DAY”

09 JAN - 13 MAR 2022:

In-situ light paintings by Sei Arimori / Jp

This monumental work speaks of the permanence of successive days and the movement of time, expressed linearly. A timeline.
Gold, symbol of light, is accentuated as this chronology progresses. The night prepares the days, the light inscribed in the night progresses with the day. The silence of the night heralds the day.

“DANCING MERIDIAN”

IN SITU INSTALLATON
by ANNIE BRASSEUR / Wallonia

THE BLWDRK NOON (BLUEPRINT)

MARIA BLONDEEL

a project in which she orients a North-South line, part of a meridian. With auditory and visual elements, she creates a new story for MUZE'UM L with remnants of the 100m line of shadows of grass photograms captured on light-sensitive paper, which she exhibited at the perpendicular sunlight in the late 1990s.

In-stu installation by HENK DELABIE / BE

In the interior of the 'units' the light disappears into the depth. During the course of the day, the light creates a constant variation of flowing light. In the constructions of walls, you can also experience natural light as a director. Defining, closing places creates a presumption of space. only daylight is used .. (henk delabie / be)

06 JAN - 10 MAR 2019

An in situ installation by MARTINE PLATTEAU / BE

The studio of Martine is a real ‘hannekesnest’. Rubbish, unordered and haphazard. From this studio, a powerful in-situ installation now appears in the MUZE'UM L in a subtle arrangement with blue as the main color:

THE GLORY OF LIGHT

18 MAR - 03 JUNE 2018

a staging by MONIQUE THOMAES

The architecture of Muze’umL challenged Monique Thomaes to draw up an art intervention in which space, light, contrast between inside and outside and the viewer are of crucial importance.
Her staging leads the light inside and invites the audience to watch.
It is an interaction between observation and being perceived.
